Tis the Season
This has been a tough year for many of us, personally, politically, meteorologically—pretty much any way you slice it. The holidays are as much about reflection as celebration. And that brings me to service.
Service to others is one way we regain control and feed our souls. Altruism benefits us as much as it benefits others. Some have posited that behaving selflessly may be the wisest ‘self-serving’ thing we can do. An act of service gets us out of our head, is an opportunity for moments of mindfulness, and truly connects us to others. You don’t need to sign up for a three-hour dinner shift at a cold-weather nighttime homeless shelter, though I’ve found those to be incredibly humbling. These can be small, five-minute acts. During tough times, these provide the beginnings of healing.
Happy Holidays to You and Yours!
